Industrial policies are back in fashion. The challenges concerning environmental sustainability and climate change require us to invest urgently in green technologies. Growing income and regional disparities have made it necessary to re-build inclusive production structures. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of building resilient and dependable supply chains. Governments can learn considerably from other’s experiences in practicing industrial policy. They can also learn from a growing body of academic research on the design and consequences of industrial policy.

This conference, co-organized by the IEA, METI and RIETI, will be a venue for distinguished scholars and policy practitioners to share the latest findings on new industrial policies for the 21st century.
